2014 Stanley Cup Final: Kings Vs Rangers
The conference finals did not go the way which I saw them and both advised bets were unsuccessful which means the post-season bets now stand at 8-14 (57%) +14.45 so still well in profit which is the most important thing! It is now time to look at the 2014 Stanley Cup Final which will feature the Los Angeles Kings and the New York Rangers.
The Los Angeles Kings who finished well down in sixth place in the Western Conference have had a long and tiring post-season with all three of their matches going the full seven games. They opened up post-season with a win over the Sharks after a remarkable comeback; they were 3-0 down in the series but won the next four games all fairly comfortably to take the series 4-3 which set a series with the Ducks.
They brought their form from the Sharks series into this one and took an early 2-0 series lead over the Ducks but then a turn of form allowed the Ducks to come back and take the next three games to take a 3-2 lead but once again they showed determination and fight with win the last two games of the series to take another 4-3 series victory.
Their rollercoaster of a post-season continued when they faced the Blackhawks in the conference final, help they did not get off to the best of starts with the Blackhawks taking a 1-0 series lead but they took the next three games to take a 3-1 series lead and were just one win away from the final but the Blackhawks came back and with three consecutive wins took the series to a game seven decider which the Kings won 5-4 in overtime.
The New York Rangers have also not had an easy time of it in post-season, after finishing fifth in the Eastern Conference their first round match was against the Flyers which went all the way to game seven after neither team could take control of the series, five of the seven games went to the side with home ice advantage and it was home ice advantage for the Rangers in game seven which they won 2-1.
They then came up against the much fancied Penguins and despite winning game one in overtime in Pittsburgh the Rangers soon found themselves 3-1 down after four games and it looked the end of their chances for this season but much like the Kings they never gave up and they turned the series round by winning the next three games which gave them a 4-3 series victory.
In the conference final they came up against the Canadiens, a team who I honestly thought would feature in the final but the Rangers got off to a flyer by winning both games in Montreal to take an early 2-0 series lead and they scored 10 goals in those two games, there was then a couple of close games which went both went to overtime with both sides winning a game each which meant the series stood at 3-1 to the Rangers. The Canadiens then won game 5 in an 11 goal thriller to give them some hope but a 1-0 victory in game 6 saw the Rangers progress to the final.
The Head-2-Head record shows that there has not been too much between the two sides, the last 15 games when they have met have resulted in 7 wins apiece and 1 ending in a tie and looking at home ice advantage when the two sides meet and the word ‘advantage’ really does not apply because it is as close as the h2h record suggests.
We have teams who finished fifth and sixth in their conferences appearing in this year’s final, the Kings have played 21 games from a possible 21 on their route here and the Rangers have played 20 from a possible 21 games so the question is whether or not stamina will play a part in the final. Both have shown the ability to give up early leads but then both have shown resolve to fight back from those.
This is going to be close 2014 Stanley Cup Final, the bookmakers have the Kings down as the favourites for the series, for it to go to game 7 the best price is 2/1. I think the Kings could well take an early lead in this series but I also believe the Rangers can win the Stanley Cup and Bet365 are offering 16/5 about the Rangers winning from behind but I also think it will go the distance and I can see the Rangers winning 4-2 so these are the two bets which I shall be playing in the final.
So my prediction is that the New York Rangers will be the 2014 Stanley Cup Final Champions!
