Brownlow Medal Award

Monday 23rd Sept 8-10pm Aus time (around late morning UK time)

With the Grand Final looming on the horizon – Hawthorn Hawks v Fremantle Dockers next weekend – thoughts today turn towards tonight’s Brownlow Medal Award ceremony. The great and good and a few others will be in attendance with the glitz and glamour as much part of the night as the seriously tedious voting!

To cut to the chase, the superb Gary Ablett (who could vie with his dad for ‘best player ever’) is a strong fave to win and is currently about 1.82 on BF to take the coveted award. I don’t usually tip anything odds-on but this is a good chance to get a nice return for a quick bet; I’ve backed him earlier in the year so am already onside with him but have topped up a bit as I think he will clearly win as he had such a great season and with not much competition for the votes in his team, it would be a shock if he didn’t

The quinella will be popular with many taking Ablett/Selwood at about 2.94 – not far off 2/1 is reasonable for this to be the 1-2 as Selwood has really shone for the Cats – Mitchell and the Pies’ lads Pendlebury and Swan will be involved and there maybe one or two long-shots up there for a while but I can’t see past Ablett for the win

Dane Swan may pick up early votes so could be worth trading, he is currently about 14 on BF to win – or you could back him for the top 3 at 3.75. He has been consistently good and although Pendlebury had some great games, he did have some quiet spells and may miss too many votes in those

So no great surprises and an obvious tip but Ablett is worth backing; if you really want safety then back him for the top 3 as he really has to be a shoe-in for that, that price is currently 1.2 so very short indeed but 20% return on your money in a few hours will attract some heavy hitters later I think

Tips:

Ablett to win 1.82 BF
Quinella Ablett/Selwood 2.94 BF
Swan top 3 at 3.75 BF
