AFL – Week 16 Preview and Tips

We are now into the real thick end of the season with teams needing to hold on to their top 8 position or fight hard to qualify for September footy

Week 15 saw the two big guns meet again in a repeat of Week 1 and Geelong yet again beat the Hawks, extending their run of victories to 11 against Hawthorn, and also ending the Hawks unbeaten 12 game run since that opening weekend fixture. Giants came oh so close to picking up their first win of the year whilst the Eagles soared to a late win over the hapless Crows

Week 16 has some fairly obvious results likely but also a few tricky ones

AFL LADDER

Week 16 Fixtures

Friday
Collingwood v Adelaide Crows

Saturday
Port Adelaide v Hawthorn Hawks
Geelong Cats v Melbourne Demons
Richmond Tigers v Gold Coast Suns
Carlton Blues v St Kilda Saints
Brisbane Lions v North Melbourne Kangaroos

Sunday
Sydney Swans v GWS Giants
Western Bulldogs v Essendon Bombers
West Coast Eagles v Fremantle Dockers

Collingwood put paid to their indifferent form with a resounding win last week against the Blues and should be way too good for an Adelaide side still trying to find it’s best approach > no value here with Pies about 1.20 but Pies -27.5 is 1.9 which may be worth taking as they may run away with this one despite Dangerfield’s continued excellence for the Crows

Hawks will no doubt bounce back against a resurgent Port but the hosts may make this tricky and will be confident of an upset after beating both Swans and Pies in recent weeks at AAMI Stadium > Hawks are 1.28

Geelong are bankers of course and the margin will be huge but Demons may be worth checking on the margin, +67.5pts is 1.93 and they may be around that if Geelong don’t go mad

Tigers had their good run stopped abruptly last week by the Kangaroos but should find solace this week against the Suns; GC have done well in recent times in this game and are +24.5 at 1.6 or so which may be worth a look – I think the Tigers will bounce well this week though

The Blues can regain winning form v the Saints

Lions may test North Melbourne – this is a hard one to call as Brisbane are capable of an upset, it’s more a case of whether the Roos will continue last week’s great form > I’m liking the +15.5 on Brisbane at about 1.7; they are also about 3.0 for the win which is tempting

Swans 1.01 v Giants of course

Bulldogs struggled to beat the Giants last week so will be surely outclassed by the Bombers who do have to contend with Watson being injured for a few weeks

Finally, the West Coast match-up is the hardest to call with good cases for both, Dockers are favourites given their form and position but this will no doubt be tight and should be ferociously contested; Dockers look a bit too tight at about 1.48 so Eagles +10.5 at over 2.0 is maybe a decent call

Advised Bets >

Friday > Collingwood -27.5pts at 1.9 (betfair)

  1. So I backed Collingwood -27.5pts and they won by 27pts! so that lost by half a point!

I mentioned but didn’t back Melbourne with the margin of +67.5 > they lost by 68pts! so I would have lost that by half a point!

Tonight, I’ll take Brisbane with the margin of 15.5

  2. Brisbane were 38 or so down but have come all the way back into leading briefly.. tight game…

Tigers earlier did indeed beat Suns altho Suns +24.25 which I hinted at came in as Tigers won by 9pts (should have backed it eh!)

  3. Brisbane +15.5pts was an easy win as Brisbane won the game! I did mention them at 3.0 which was a really good price

So far, 8 out of 8 correct with the final match underway now

  4. Fremantle duly won the final match and although my nod twoards Eagles +10.5 wasn’t near enough, the week’s predictions ended 9/9

Not stunning as a lot of the games were fairly easy to call but Brisbane and some of the margin calls were pretty close! Wish all weeks were like this!

More previews each week from now on
