AFL Round 10 Fixtures and Previews
Week 10 of the season and we are approaching the mid-season weeks where all teams will get a bye at some point soon (weeks 11-13 have 6 teams weekly on a bye)
The form has settled a bit but there are still some surprising results; there are a few predictable teams at the top and bottom as usual. Hawks and Cats are 8-1 and looking strong although Geelong suffered their first defeat recently (by Collingwood) and Hawks are on a run of 8 straight wins after that opening game defeat by Geelong.
Current AFL table:
Week 10 fixtures >
Brisbane Lions v Collingwood Magpies
Carlton Blues v GWS Giants
Adelaide Crows v Fremantle Dockers
Sydney Swans v Essendon Bombers
Geelong Cats v Gold Coast Suns
Western Bulldogs v Port Adelaide Power
Melbourne Demons v Hawthorn Hawks
North Melbourne Kangaroos v St Kilda Saints
West Coast Eagles v Richmond Tigers
Pies look short at $1.20 to win at the Lions who are resurgent in the past couple of weeks (fabulous win at the Bombers) – Pies got thumped by the Swans last week and although should win with comfort, it’s probably worth checking the handicaps on the Lions – worth noting that Jonathan Brown is suspended though for the hosts which is a obviously a big miss for them
Blues should roll the Giants obviously, Hawks likewise at the lapless Demons (note that Hawks usually win this game but not by many points, Demons might be worth looking at with a huge margin available! +90.5pts is about 1.81 on betfair)
Crows Dockers is a great match-up with both rising in confidence and well-matched; Dockers are better at home usually and Crows are favourites at about $1.80 but this could be really close
Swans will expect to continue last week’s terrific form with a win over the 3rd placed Bombers but don’t be surprised if the Bombers make this tricky, Swans look tight at $1.50
Cats should beat Suns but again, +55.5pts on the Suns may be a play as they are in good nick and don’t get rolled by the Cats usually.
Bulldogs should pick up from last week’s great win over the Saints and can take advantage against a Port team who are sliding rapidly after their 5-0 start – I think the bookies have this one wrong as they price Bulldogs at about $2.48 (betfair) and Port at $1.66. I’ll definitely be looking at WB here and playing the handicap too – this match is in Darwin but Bulldogs usually win this game by plenty
Roos will look to put the huge disappointment of last week’s single point loss to Crows behind them and not face another game where they lose by under 5 pts – Saints are struggling despite Nick Riewoldt’s impressive form and may be hard-pushed to stop a Roos side who are better than their position suggests.
Eagles are big favs to stop Tigers but Richmond aren’t the easiest side to write off and may well make life a lot harder than their price of $3.80 indicates (Tigers +26.5pts is reasonable at 1.71 on betfair)
So, plenty of underdogs who may cause upsets or be worth backing on the handicap – best bets for me would be Bulldogs to win and perhaps Tigers and Suns on the handicaps – I might keep an eye on those big handicaps too as Demons should in theory lose by 100 easily but 90 is a big margin whoever you’re playing
