The Master Antepost
It’s been slightly over a week since my first piece regarding the showpiece event of the golf year at Augusta (Here). In that article, I listed my 17 at the time of writing who made up my first shortlist. I have since had another look and slightly tweaked what I am looking for while looking with more depth at the players involved.
One major difference here is that I haven’t readily dismissed rookies in the same way I did in my original selections. I now have a shortlist of 16 (17 last time) of which some are the same as last time and there are some new names.
Let’s look at the list below with their best prices,
From last week’s list, we have 9 survivors. The most high profile additions are Schwartzel, Stenson and Watson. There are 3 rookies that have made my group above after not ruling them out this time around. As I said last time, most seem to be fairly priced at this stage and the compilers are doing well to protect themselves with just over 3 weeks to go.
Charl Schwartzel definitely appeals at the best price of 40/1 now though. I don’t quite understand how I glossed over the 2011 champion when dissecting the field before! He bombs it over 307 yards from the tee on average (6th longest in the field), he putts well, he scores well on par 5s and he has good previous form.
That’s about the only stand out price in my opinion. The likes of Laird, Piercy and Colsaerts seem to be overpriced but not dramatically so and I’m willing to let them go for a week or two. I’ll be adding Schwartzel to my antepost book which now consists of Bill Haas (100/1) and the South African former winner.
