AFL Round 1 Games
Aussie Rules was something I used to see for about 5 minutes a year growing up in the UK, and it always had a peculiar image with mullet-haired players in far too short shorts basically bundling around a huge pitch after a rugby ball – well, now I’m in Oz I have happily converted to being a big fan of this game. Known as Footie here in Australia, it commands decent crowds and plenty of telly time; it’s the biggest sport in SA, huge in Victoria as there are a lot of teams based in and around Melbourne and the game has its origins there, and it has a good following in WA and some in Queensland too
It’s a huge sport here (more so in certain states than others as mentioned above) and manages to provide plenty of thrilling games as well as good betting opportunities too. There are a few too many blow-outs unfortunately, mainly due to the integration of new teams who aren’t up to the required level yet but the games have plenty of margin lines so there is always a chance to get ahead of the bookies
Week 1 of the regular season is underway having been split over the first 2 weekends – Essendon Bombers saw off the Adelaide Crows last week in a minor surprise followed by Fremantle beating their west coast rivals, the Eagles in game 2
Thursday night saw Richmond with a big win at Carlton despite a good fightback in the 4th quarter from the Blues
Today sees plenty more games with the Bulldogs currently seeing off NAB Cup (pre-season warm up) winners the Brisbane Lions – there are 2 more games today and then 3 more tomorrow including the game of the week, Hawthorn v Geelong
We will provide insight each week with our thoughts and any recommended tips!
