Back Atletico to Upset the Odds Against Bayern

Guest Post from betadvisor

We are entering the final phase of European football’s premier competition, thumb the Champions League, pharmacy and we know the four teams that will duke it out for the biggest prize of them all.

Manchester City will have to take their performance level to new heights if they are to see off Real Madrid, while there is a feeling that Atletico Madrid – despite being the underdogs – have what it takes to see off their more illustrious opponents Bayern Munich in the other last four clash.

Here are some betting tips to whet the appetite for the action ahead.

Manchester City vs Real Madrid

The first of the Champions League semi-finals sees a team in unchartered territory take on one that has been here, done it and got the t-shirt.

Manchester City have never been in the last four of this competition. So it will be interesting to see how they settle into the tie. Having the home leg first is perhaps a great help.

Mind you, Real Madrid – ten-time Champions League/European Cup winner – will fancy their chances of netting an away goal at the Etihad Stadium to take back to fortress Bernabeu. Man City have conceded in 16 of their last 19 home matches in the Champions League, so you would fancy Cristiano Ronaldo and co to find the net here. City have also won less than 50% of their last 19 home matches in the competition (eight), so we cannot back them with any confidence against a rampant Real side.

But the good news for City fans is that they have scored in 16/19, and Real have conceded in 10 of their own last 19 Champions League matches on the road. So we can expect goals in this encounter, despite its likely tense and tight opening period.

The fact that the Madrid outfit have won eleven of their last nineteen away Champions League matches bodes well, and so with all things considered surely the Real Madrid to Win and Both Teams to Score market, at a best price of 4.25, needs supporting. Let’s add it to our betting tips.

Then, we have the Ronaldo effect to consider too. He enjoyed a number of fine years in Manchester while playing for City’s fierce rivals United, and he will be desperate to find the net here. As the Champions League top goalscorer this term, it’s likely that he will score in his match. He can be backed at 2.05 to do just that, and the Portuguese ace is even available at 5.00 to score two or more.

Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich

It is remarkable that Atletico Madrid are priced at 3.00 to win the first leg of their tie with Bayern Munich, and we are more than happy to add them to today’s betting tips at such generous odds.

The reasons for our favouritism of the Spanish side are obvious. They have won 17 of their last 20 matches played at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, and 12 of 15 in the Champions League. You simply cannot argue with form like that, and Diego Simeone has marshalled his troops into a side that can simply grind out victories. Against a Bayern side that appears fragile on their travels, they have a great opportunity to take a healthy lead to the Allianz Arena for the second leg.

Speaking of Bayern’s vulnerability on the road, they have won just three of their last ten Champions League matches away from home. Remember when they were defeated by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the season, or when they failed to beat a Benfica side who were without their two best attacking players? The bookmakers appear to have forgotten anyway; good news for us.

As far as the tie is concerned, there’s further good news for Atletico supporters. They have conceded just one goal in their last eight matches – that’s seven clean sheets in eight. If they can restrict Bayern from scoring here then they stand a fantastic chance of winning the tie; they would then only need to score in Germany to hold all the aces. So, at 2.63, we’re happy to offer Atletico to Qualify as the best of today’s football betting tips from Bet Advisor.
