Brazil v Netherlands – World Cup 2014 Third Place Playoff

Brazil v Netherlands – World Cup 2014 Third Place Playoff

The hosts Brazil have the task of overcoming that humiliating defeat to Germany in the semi-finals where they were hammered 7-1 and their defence had a shocking game but they will welcome back captain and leader Thiago Silva for this game and I will be very surprised if Felipe Scolari does not make a host of changes following that match. The dutch suffered heart-break in a penalty shoot-out against the Argentineans in their semi-final and after scoring plenty in their first four matches they have now failed to hit the back of the net in their last two games and player like Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Memphis Depay could earn call-ups to the team.

The last time the two met in a World Cup was in South Africa (2010) when the Dutch came out 2-1 winners, approved the drew 1-1 in 98 with the Brazilians winning on penalties, mind in 94 Brazil went on to a 3-2 success and then in 74 the Dutch ran out 2-0 winners, there is still some pride to play for here and Brazil will not want to end their campaign in their own country with a defeat and although not capable of winning it, they will want to take 3rd place for their fans and country.

Our Thoughts:

Match Winner – Brazil
Will Both Teams Score – Yes
When will the match be won – 90 Minutes

Brazil were failing to impress even before going into their match with the Germans where the just self-imploded and seemed to give in at one point during the match and they will be hurting from that match, not only for their performance but also for the fans. The Dutch have failed to score in their last two matches but if the hosts defence is anything like it was against Germany then you would expect a goal or two from them today.

Really tough one because Brazil will not be as bad as they were in their last match but I am expecting changes from the Dutch, I think we could see a goal fest here today with two attacking sides but the BTTS value is not there, I also believe that Brazil will end with a win and they will do it in the 90 minutes so I am going with BTTS & Brazil to win at 3.75.

Brazil will be a hell of a lot more defensively minded than Tuesday but they’ll come up against a Dutch team who’ll still present too many problems for them to cope with. Marcelo will be rightly targetted by Robben if the pair play and I can see him having all kinds of fun down that side. Luiz still gets dragged to the man too easily and a clever player like Van Persie will draw him in purposefully to allow Robben in behind one on one against the defenders.

Brazil haven’t really got a lot going forward enough to suggest they’ll outscore Holland here but there could be a few goals in this.

About Author

I have been in the betting game for getting on 10 years now, I was a late comer in the betting scene, never really showed much interest in the first 20 years of my life but then I came across a betting website and that all changed. I have learnt a vast amount over the last 5 years, I used to believe I could pick the winner in every race before I realised I could not and began selective betting which is the only way forward. I mainly stick with the horses but do occasionally stray off to bet on the footie or speedway. I am now 35 years old, born and bred in Ipswich and still here and forever a Tractorboy, work part time for a Cash & Carry and have a dog named Dave! That’s about it from me.
