John Morris brings out his ‘Contenders’ book the fortnight before the Festival every year now; this edition also acts as a spring special edition as any horse mentioned that does not run at the Festival, may run at Aintree or at Punchestown. It must be very difficult for the author as this book is packed with stats, winners SPs, fate of the favourite in the race.. he packs a lot into ‘the 72 pages!
All 27 of the Festival races are dissected, with the bonus of his view on punting….
“it is worth remembering that the 4 day Festival is a gourmet of betting opportunities, and can be a recipe for disaster, my strategy is trying to locate a winning bet on each of the 4 days then look for any real value that has been overlooked particularly in the handicaps”.
Morris gives you the inside out of the Festival and tries to give you a route to finding what works for you. He also gives you The Trends and The Bookmaker Ploys; it’s a great read, and saves you trying to find stats as all you may need are in here.
There is also the opportunity to get John’s bonus bets on the phone with all the details being in the book. For my part, I like the way John Morris has laid out this book and its very well put together with all the form of the British and Irish runners at your fingertips.
