Matt Kenseth was able to save enough fuel to take the checkered flag at Pocono Raceway.
With three laps to go, Joey Logano – who had led 97 laps – ran out of gas on the Long Pond Straightaway. This allowed Kyle Busch to take the lead. He too ran out of gas on the final lap and teammate Matt Kenseth cut a ten second deficit to pass him and score his 33rd career victory. Brad Keselowski, whom also ran out of gas, came home second. Jeff Gordon, who was running 16th with four laps to go, had the gas to round out the podium with a third place finish.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson, A. J. Allmendinger, Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards rounded out the top ten.
Joey Logano came home 20th. Kyle Busch came home 21st.
Points leader Kevin Harvick blew an engine leading the race on lap 20 and finished 42nd. This was his first DNF since last year’s Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in April.
Kasey Kahne spun out on the fifth lap and crashed into the inside pit road wall and finished dead last.
That’s all from Long Pond. Next week, NASCAR returns to road course racing with the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen at Watkins Glen International.
