Giro Stage 12 Cycling Blog

Giro Stage 12 comes off a breakaway win on stage 11, this Lobato did not look a bad option but my small match bets all rewarded us pity pinnacle where a little slow to get prices up so there value could not be latched onto. Stage 12 gives us a 190km from Imola to Vicenza with some late climbs thrown in and an uphill finish thrown in to the mix for the riders. Crosara is an interesting climb it has some seriously steep ramps to test the riders. Its 27km to go from the top of that climb.  Its a it of gap from the top of the final hill to the uphill finish in Vicenza.

The finish is up hill for just over a km over the 7%. It ramps up and up and gets harder as they get up it, its not that long that a Gilbert type could thrive along with other good Ardenne classic riders. The clear four in the market are Gilbert, Matthews, Lobato and Ulissi. Of those Gilbert is my favourite based on his showing on the finish of Amstel Gold where Matthews never looked likely to go past him on the hill.

At 20/1 could Gerrans present some value to backers but with the whole who leads for Orica its always a worry. However perhaps Cunego has one more big moment for him and we all know in his prime this finish would be ideal for the little prince. Hopes for Geschke have gotten higher each year and many feel he has a hard finish in him and that one day he might deliver on it. With an open team policy he should have his chance. Lastly CCC need to strike and we know the talents of Paterski could excel in this one. I think we see the pack come good here with many interests likely in chasing down the break.
