Giro Stage 14 Cycling Blog

Giro Stage 14 is the real test of the race. Stage 13 had Griepel as the favourite but he was a good lay at 2.56 as he proved nervy and didn’t contest the finish as Modolo held off Nizzolo. Meanwhile Viviani did us proud winning a nice 2/1 odds match bets. Pity it was that a simple stage 13 ended up taking out Contador in the crash and Porte looked the worse for that crash. It makes the time trial hard to judge coming off a crash.

Giro Stage 14 is first of all going be wet which is a pity and the riders will have had quiet enough of the wet conditions at this stage. Its good bends this course and we could see some riders lose quiet bit of time if they don’t hold there nerve and take the right risks. At 59,4km this is a hell of a time trial with only a rare amount going this far. World Championship time trials are some what relevant.  With climbing in the second half this is going to really sap the riders legs.

Giro Stage 14 profile

With three intermediate time checks on the day it is going get interesting how big time losses are towards the second half when the am I bothered bunch of riders easy off. We know the top 20 in GC will give it there all but who else might take an interest might provide a key edge to us backers. Porte did not warm down today on the bike as per usual the crash shook him a little, I like Uran too but I think we need to watch out for Zakarin who thrives in the wet and has a big time trial in him. For these long tests I like Chavanel but I worry all is not quiet right for him in this Giro so I left him alone.

Instead I take a point on last years world championship 4th and Porte team mate Kiriyenka who hopefully will e setting a marker for Porte on his ride. The key battle for me is Van Den Broeck to beat Aru the 6/5 ladbrokes offer is simply too tempting

.5pts Ilnur Zakarin 11/2 ladbrokes

.3pt Vasil Kiriyenka 22/1 betfair

1pt Formolo to beat Cunego 3.01 pinnacle

6pts Van Den Broeck to beat Aru 6/5 ladbrokes

2pts Uran to beat Porte 2.04 pinnacle

1.5pts Zakarin to beat Chavanel 1.59 pinnacle
