Widely acknowledged as his target for the season, Dermot Weld has an impeccable record at this track with 100 wins from 412 runners. I’m going to take an analytical look at his previous runners to see if we can spot any patterns or angles for this years Galway Festival.
As we can see, blindly backing Weld’s runners in non-handicaps would have resulted in outright profit. So the next step will be to split these Non-Handicaps down:
With his horses 5yo or older showing red at level stakes I’ll only be looking to back anything 4yo or younger. Similarly 7f, 1m1.5f or 2m are by fair his profitable distances and they’ll be the ones to back in. Finally he doesn’t seem to have a good record in chases so I’ll not be backing any of his fence jumpers.
With those fairly basic stats showing clear bias towards either age, distance or type of race I’m going to propose a 1pt stake for each of the following criteria.
