4.20 NewcastleLETHAL IMPACT (nap)

The selection is a son of Deep Impact who is a full brother to very smart Japanese 8-12f winner (including twice at Group 1 level) Mikki Queen, very useful Japanese 8-12.5f winner Inner Urge, very useful Japanese 10-11f winner Tosen Matakoiya and Japanese 1m 1f 3yo winner Rule Britannia, out of a Group 1-placed French 9-12f winner (including at Group 2/3 level) who was a half sister to Group 2-placed French 10f 3yo Flat/2m 1f-2m 6f hurdle winner Murray River. This colt is trained by David Simcock and fetched ¥180,000,000 as a yearling at auction, making obvious appeal on pedigree as a brother to four winners in Japan including Japanese Oaks winner Mikki Queen, whilst another winning sibling along with his dam (at two over 1m 1f) were able to get off the mark at the first time of asking. He comes from a good stable that has enjoyed plenty of success at this venue since it switched to an artificial surface, boasting a very respectable record of 4-8 with its two-year-olds in that period; absolutely no surprise to see this son Deep Impact enhance that record and make a winning start to his career here.

About Author

Have been interested in horse racing since 2000, particularly the breeding side of things. Naturally, I enjoy picking apart maiden races given my love of pedigrees, but I am also at home with handicaps and Group races. Spotting potential early is very rewarding, as is picking up on a handicap project from an early stage, with my most satisfying success stories in recent years being Pere Blanc, More Of That, Turtle Watch and Arab Dawn.
