Horse Racing: Sunday 29th April – Aidenldrebin Selection

3.05 SalisburyNEBUCHADNEZZAR (nap)

The selection, trained by Alan King, is a son of Planteur who was an unfancied 50/1 chance when debuting in a 7f novice event at Newbury last July, waited with and sticking on well from over a furlong out without ever landing in a blow on the principals as he came home in fifth behind Stage Magic (beaten lengths). He again caught the eye with his finishing effort in a 1m novice race here some six weeks later (14/1 chance), held up and hampered by a stricken rival when trying to make progress three furlongs out, keeping on steadily thereafter to take fourth behind Al Jellaby (beaten 7¼ lengths). His third and qualifying run came in a 10f maiden at Goodwood three weeks later (12/1 chance), racing in midfield and making progress to challenge over two furlongs out, unable to go with the leaders and plugging on inside the final furlong to finish fourth behind Setting Sail (beaten 6¼ lengths). He was merely laying the foundations for a handicapping campaign this time around, handed an opening mark of 71 and hailing from a stable that enjoys a good deal of success in this type of event; gelded since last seen and bred to improve with time, it wouldn’t at all surprise to see this son of Planteur make a winning return to action here.

About Author

Have been interested in horse racing since 2000, particularly the breeding side of things. Naturally, I enjoy picking apart maiden races given my love of pedigrees, but I am also at home with handicaps and Group races. Spotting potential early is very rewarding, as is picking up on a handicap project from an early stage, with my most satisfying success stories in recent years being Pere Blanc, More Of That, Turtle Watch and Arab Dawn.
