Horse Racing: Sunday 2nd April – Aidenldrebin Selection

0

5.05 Doncaster – FIRST NATION (nap)

The selection, trained by Charlie Appleby, is a well-bred son of Dubawi who stepped up on his debut effort to land an 8.5f maiden at Wolverhampton last November (4/1 chance), travelling well close up and taking over with two furlongs left to run, coming clear inside the final furlong and eased close home to score by 2¾ lengths from Wild Shot. It is likely he accounted for nothing more than an average bunch that day, but he was vastly superior to them in every way, travelling much the best throughout and afforded the luxury of being eased down as the line approached. An opening mark of 83 more than likely underestimates him by some considerable margin, achieving nothing out of the ordinary in form terms to date but winning his maiden with any amount in hand and boasting a smart pedigree, counting Group 1 winners Kirklees and Mastery among his siblings. His pedigree also suggests the additional distance on offer here will suit well, and Group-race entries intimate all has gone to plan over the winter months; absolutely no surprise to see this son of Dubawi make a winning return to action en route to bigger and better things.

About Author

Have been interested in horse racing since 2000, particularly the breeding side of things. Naturally, I enjoy picking apart maiden races given my love of pedigrees, but I am also at home with handicaps and Group races. Spotting potential early is very rewarding, as is picking up on a handicap project from an early stage, with my most satisfying success stories in recent years being Pere Blanc, More Of That, Turtle Watch and Arab Dawn.
