Horse Racing: Sunday 30th April – Aidenldrebin Selection

3.05 Gowran Park – SANSIBAR JEWEL (nap)

The selection, trained by Dermot Weld, is a well-bred daughter of Street Cry who made her debut outing in a 1m fillies’ maiden at Leopardstown last October (10/1 chance), dropped in from her wide draw and racing in mid-division, short of room three furlongs out and pushed along soon after, keeping on from over a furlong out to finish fifth of 19 behind White Satin Dancer (beaten 9½ lengths). For all she was never seriously involved on debut, her pedigree strongly suggests she’ll only come into her in her second season once tackling middle distances, being a full sister to Ribblesdale Stakes winner Princess Highway (made little impact on her only start at two) and a half sister to Irish Leger winner Royal Diamond. She gets an extra furlong and a half this time and entries in the Irish 1000 Guineas, Pretty Polly Stakes, Prix Saint-Alary and the English, Irish and French Oaks indicate connections’ long-term aspirations, while she returns to action at a course where her handler enjoys so much success (record in this particular event since 2010 reads 2112121); it’d be rather disappointing if this filly couldn’t make it second time lucky here.

About Author

Have been interested in horse racing since 2000, particularly the breeding side of things. Naturally, I enjoy picking apart maiden races given my love of pedigrees, but I am also at home with handicaps and Group races. Spotting potential early is very rewarding, as is picking up on a handicap project from an early stage, with my most satisfying success stories in recent years being Pere Blanc, More Of That, Turtle Watch and Arab Dawn.
