Horse Racing: Tuesday 24th April – Aidenldrebin Selection

3.25 YarmouthPENTLAND HILLS (nap)

The selection, trained by Chris Wall, is a son of Motivator who shaped in similar fashion on his first two outings in 1m novice events at Haydock and Newmarket last September, patiently ridden and making progress into midfield at around the halfway stage before being left behind at the business end of matters (not given a hard time once held). His third and qualifying outing came in a 1m novice contest back at Newmarket the following month (100/1 chance), dropped in and taking a keen hold under restraint, ridden three furlongs out and making some progress albeit never competitive, coming home a well-held fifth of seven to Knight To Behold (beaten 19 lengths). He was quite clearly rushed through novice company in order to acquire a mark, allocated a rating of 62, and the step up to ten furlongs will suit well on pedigree (half brother to King Edward winner Balios out of a useful 10.5-15f winning half sister to several at least useful middle distance performers). Fractious in the preliminaries second time out and keen to varying degrees on all three starts at two, it’s little surprise he has been gelded since last seen; from a stable that enjoys plenty of success in these sorts of races, this son of Motivator should be much more competitive here.

About Author

Have been interested in horse racing since 2000, particularly the breeding side of things. Naturally, I enjoy picking apart maiden races given my love of pedigrees, but I am also at home with handicaps and Group races. Spotting potential early is very rewarding, as is picking up on a handicap project from an early stage, with my most satisfying success stories in recent years being Pere Blanc, More Of That, Turtle Watch and Arab Dawn.
