Open de Espana Golf Picks
Last week was a mess for the European Tour and I was glad to end up with just two picks starting in what became a very disturbing 36 hole event including the death of a caddie on course which did nothing but halt proceedings or an hour. Lets hope for better this week as we return to mainland Europe for the Open de Espana this week. With the Players over the field is looking strong for this one and so it should be in what is a very decent looking event as we hit the core of the European season and Ryder Cup points up for grabs.
The course is the Stadium course at the PGA Cataluyna. The course plays longer now and tree lined means wayward driving should be punished. Water is in play on seven of the holes. The event is pretty classy and it shows in its past winners all are highly regarded on the Tour as quality and the 2012 winner was very close at TPC last Sunday. Past events here have shown GIR to be a key stat and that is probably made easier by fairly accurate driving. Driving Accuracy is a funny one for me, recipe as some will not hit many fairways but be close and end up in 1st cut while some more inconsistent may find more fairways but more likely to get caught in the deep stuff.
Paddy Power again stands out going 6 places.
Open de Espana Picks
Pablo Larrazabal 45/1 paddy power- Interesting that a good result here could get him into the US Open. With this been back home 4 days in good conditions should really suit him. Ignoring last years missed cut he has enjoyed this even
Julien Quesne 40/1 paddy power – Played well enough during the Asian swing. Italian Open win shows a course like this should suit. A 6th bet for me and give him a saver for my 6th pick here.
Gregory Bourdy 33/1 boylesports – Proving pretty consistent and often near the top of leader boards. Plays decent in Spain and had top 10 his last visit to this course. Excellent GIR stats.
Alexander Levy 80/1 sportingbet – He has enjoyed playing here in the past and hes a recent winner who is truly in good form right now
David Horsey 66/1 bet365- On a good run and a player who finds plenty fairways and can sink a few putts. Has played well in this event so why not again.
Alvaro Quiros 35/1 paddy power- Good recent play at European Tour level and an improvement after he went down hill in 2013 and off the radar. top 20 in 2009 on this course.
