Strade Bianche 2015 Cycling Preview

Strade Bianche hits our screens this Saturday by far one of my favourite one day races. Strade Bianche with its white pebble dash road makes for interesting racing. Its not just the hilly terrain but the rough roads that test the bike handling of riders. Last year Kwiatkowski delivered for this very blog at 20/1. Again the profile of winners are limited to a certain kind of rider so it makes for an interesting betting heat.

Strade Bianche Route 2015

The route as we can see has only one longish climb but its goes up and down for most of the day. First off I had tweeted I had already backed Stybar 10/1 and Moser 33/1. Both suit this parcours and one of them has already won this race. The start list is pretty damn interesting. Aside from those mentioned a reformed Pozzatto may well be in with a song in a race he has had a mixed bag with. Cunego also comes here with Nippo but I am not too keen on him.

Gerrans is a winner but for me he is a pretty poor bike handler and to be avoided I could see him holding back a little from his come back after his mountain bike crash set him back. Cannondale have an interesting team with past winner Moser, treatment he also has the support of Haas and Hesjedal who should go well here. Van Marcke is bang in form right now but I am not sure this race is best suited to him and Jumbo have a reduced squad for this one. Sky are also down some numbers including the talked about Kennaugh. Its unclear if they will refill there roster.

Both Peter Sagan and Fabian Cancellara come here with decent support. Felline or Kreuziger could have easily been lead there teams in this. The real fire is in Moser a past winner showing glimpses of his talents so far this year. I considered Kreuziger and Gatto as options but instead Pozzatto and Visconti are worth a shout at 66/1.  Stybar is one we always remember as an unlucky man in a Paris Roubaix. He is a great cross racer and some still under estimate how good he could be.
