Tour De Romandie 2015 Cycling Blog

The last week race before we get into the Giro in May. 6 stages in this years race. A team time trial, an individual time trial, two high mountain days, and a medium mountain day with one clear sprint day. Stage 1 TTT is long enough to create some notable gaps. Stage finishes over a decent testing climb so I am unsure we see a big pack at the finish of that one. Stage 3 should be a sprint for the stronger sprinters. Stage 4 does look another sprint if maybe selective.  Stage 5 is the key mountain day 4 cat 1 climbs, final climb is 14.2km at 7%. 17km time trial to hit on final day.

Forecast is for some rain so that will make it a little more up in the air as some riders do not give there best with the horrid weather. Both Majka and Van Den Broeck might pick up there form here but differing issues put me off. Martin has a horrid time with crashes the past week.

Spilak loves the wet weather

Spilak looks a good call for this one with his love of horrid weather, his decent showing in Pais Vasco and a good record in the race encourge me and he is 7/1 with two books. He wasn’t far off before and both Froome and Quintana are not bullet proof just now. Rui Costa has also done well in the past and looks tip top right now. Peraud is my saver at the tasteful odds of 66/1. The market has been a little rushed so offerings are slim so the match betting market does not provide much in the way of chances for us.

1.2pt Simon Spilak 7/1 betvictor

.5pts Rui Costa 14/1 skybet

.1pt JC Peraud 66/1 ladbrokes

.5pts Fuglsang to beat Nibali 1.84 pinnacle

1pt Van Den Broeck to beat Niemiec 8/11 bet365

  1. Stage 1:

Team time trial, a 19,2km test with enough to create some gaps including a late uphill should get very interesting. Not sure how polished sky might be for this Froome and Thomas are good but the rest might be little off there game although Stannard is a beast for help on this type of stage. Astana have a nice team line up for this. Both Etixx and Orica are top of the market but they don’t have there best line ups for this short of test here. The Movistar line up looks quiet.

I had a feeling for BMC so opted for them but price restricts my stake on this one. Movistar are much better than an 18/1 shot in a discipline we have seen them compete well in.

    Stage 1 Bets:
    .7pt Movistar 18/1 paddys
    .25pt BMC 6.03 pinnacle 11/2 bet365

.75pts BMC to beat Etixx 2.67 pinnacle
1.5pts Orica to beat Sky 1.7 pinnacle

  2. Stage 2:
No dice on stage winner or the match bets for us both narrowly beaten. Its a sprint finish but getting there may trouble some riders so expect more limited choice of possible winners.
Albasini and Alaphillippe are the obvious favourites here.

Zakarin has already this year been close to Matthews and is in the mould of Kwia. It really is a tricky one to judge and it may well go to the top two in the market but Katusha had a good ttt and could win here in differing styles with there top two riders.

    .2pt SPilak 50/1 paddys
    .4pts Zakarin 20/1 betvic

1.5pts Zakarin to beat Chernetskiy 1.71 pinnacle
.75pts Spilak to beat Pinot evens

  3. Stage 3:
Hit both match bets so things have picked up for the blog.Albasini put in a good sprint today as Orica got the expected win. Mixed feelings for this stage, quiet bit of climbing to be done. Also will Orica control with Albasini leading and will they get any help if people are worried for Albasini. Its tricky to judge if it will be a mass sprint, limited or even a select one so I am going with a little bit of the middle ground.

Both Haas and Rui Costa took the eye today and could contest if things get though. Zakarin is given another chance.

    .2pt N.Haas 33/1 bet365, ladbrokes, hills
    .15pt Rui Costa 50/1 bet365
    .1pt I.Zakarin 66/1 bet365, hills

1pt Rui Costa to beat Caruso 4/5 bet365

  4. Stage 4:
Another win for Albasini, another 2nd for Alaphillipe (poor lad). Rui Costa and Haas where both close but god it looks hard to beat Albasini right now.
Todays stage may be sprint friendly but the rain will hit so that may cause some concern. Albasini has another sprint in him but maybe Nizzollo can trouble him, but maybe this time Etixx might go with Meersman this time on a more suitable day. Navardauskas should go this time over Haas as Cannondale search for a much needed win.

    .4pts G.Meersman 18/1 bet365
    .25pts R.Navardauskas 33/1 bet365
    ,
2pts Van Den Broeck to beat Fuglsang 2.2 pinnacle
2pts Pantano to beat Haas 2.29 pinnacle
1.5pt Rui Costa to beat Caruso 2.39 pinnacle

  5. Stage 5:
Excellent results for us yesterday, all 3 odds against match bets landed and quiet nicely too. Meersman didn’t win but won the bunch gallop in behind so showed the blog was on track. Onto stage 5 could it be another swiss winner hoping someone got Kung in play at least he is quality and I have built him up on the twitter.
Key Mountain day here so expect we get a new winner on the podium and a new race leader. A final climb of 14km at 7% will test everyone, agree with the giro riders maybe easing off here so look away from them as stage winners, unless they just dont care.Astana have lots of options while Movistar have time to make up.

We are on Spilak overall but at 10/1 for stage dont be afraid to top up. Really quiet like the Rui Costa match bet at 19/20
    ,
    Bets:
    .5pt Spilak 10/1 betvictor
    .3pts Pinot 25/1 888sport (22/1 bet365)
    .25pts Fuglsang 33/1 paddys (bet365)
    .25pts Simon Yates 66/1 betvictor

2pt Van Den Broeck to beat Uran 2.59 pinnacle
3pts Rui Costa to beat Majka 19/20 hills
    2pts Yates to beat Atapuma 8/11 bet365
1pt Fugslang to beat Nibali 21/20 hills

  6. Stage 6:
Pinot was excellent in victory, when the pressure off is when he thrives, however the match bets lost with the yates lost to Atapuma most frustrating. On a normal day I would have jumped on the Martin win here at 4/7 or more but its wet, and Martin does take very calculated risks to maybe a shock winner is on the cards, I dont see Froome or Uran pushing the boundaries
Kung I think can handle conditions and his upside is huge so I would kick myself if I did not give him a chance. Zakarin is also thriving and him and SPilak will be driving each other here.
    ,
    .5pt S.Kung 33/1 betvictor
    .2pt I.Zakarin 66/1 paddys
    ,
3pts Fuglsang to beat Danielson 1.92 pinnacle
4pts Rui Costa to beat Zoidl 1.8 pinnacle
2pts Navardauskas to beat Ludvigsson 1.89 pinnacle
