Todays Young Cyclist to watch in 2013:

Name: Joseph Dombrowski

Nationality : USA

Born:12th May 1991

Build: 188cm  / 67kg

Team: Team Sky

Dombrowski to be watched on the climbs

An amazing american talent once again a place that is really producing over last few years witn a vast amount of american talent now riding at Pro Tour level, Dombrowski steps up to the Protour hoping to match the acheivements of the likes of Tejay Van Garderen and Taylor Phinney. Dombrowski is coming off 3 seasons riding Bontanger Livestrong now was right time for him to seek a spot at the highest level.

Dombrowski stood out with a superb 2012 stateside. He had a 12th overall in the Tour of California despite a poor showing in the time trial as he came 4th on the queen stage looking very impressive. He beat fellow Americans Horner and Danielson to the line that day. He has the talent and advantage of coming into cycling at right time that he could do better than either of those two in pro cycling.

He then went into June and won the Baby Giro for riders under 27 with none tour teams, he beat an array of

Digging deep in the baby giro

Italians looking to win on home soil to take it by 27second. Past winners in just its 5th year include Betancur and Cataldo both doing well on Protour now. His 4th in the tour of Utah overall was impressive again just 58 seconds down on Tschopp who had a big week for BMC racing, he held off Leipheimer and Horner. 2 weeks later he again showed his talent again the pros coming in 10th overall for Tour of Colorado won by VanDe Velde just a minute 40 down hopes are good he can deliver similar results in Europe for sky.

It has been remarked how much power DOmbrowski has he is naturally light, and has been remarked how lean he is for a rider riding outside the Protour his power outage if it can be improved even a little can compare to Wiggins when peaking. He will climb with the best of them and is likely to be a key cog as climbing help for sky in the season, he may get chance to some of his cards in the week tours that wiggins or froome don’t target althou sky are not ones to push riders to quickly.

With a frame like his the time trialing can become an issue and like alot of riders built like him it is more of an effort and results can vary, but he has a decent position and it shouldn’t be something to stop him winning grand tours down the line, his climbing style and power is so impressive thats what the focus should be. Its also good that team mate Boswell will come over with him which should help him settle in.

It will be exciting to see him in the Giro which he is likely to ride in support of Wiggins in the mountains.  He is likely to make his debut in the Tour of Oman which has one climb for him to test himself, he is a very exciting prospect and will be an animal in the mountains if he can do it day after day.

Summary: Watch him in the climbs, if he rides the Giro he will miss California were he could have went well. But watch him later in year riding for sky Stateside were he should go well. He will do well and a stage win on a mountain top finish is highly likely
