Zipster’s Weekend Boxing Blog (15th-16th June)

Zipster’s Weekend Boxing Blog

We did alright last weekend, this from the three suggested bets that I put up two of them came in for a small profit. DeGale got the job done within the first six rounds and Adonis Stevenson took out Chad Dawson in the first round. Not too much top action boxing this weekend but there is one bout that I like the look of.

Mikey Garcia Vs Juan Manuel Lopez (16th June – 3am)

This is a featherweight bout between American Mikey Garcia and Puerto Rican Juan Manuel Lopez and this should be one cracking fight! Garcia is unbeaten in 31 professional fights, from those 31bouts he has won KO 26 times which is a KO percentage of 84% which is outstanding for a fighter who has boxed in over 30 bouts. He will be up against the number 1 ranked Puerto Rican featherweight Juan Manuel Lopez, from his 35 fights he has won 33 and lost 2 and from his 33 wins no fewer than 30 of them have come by KO which means he has a KO percentage of 86% so what we have here is two fighters who can produce KO’s which I am hoping will make this fight a cracker.

Garcia is the current WBO Featherweight Title holder and will be defending it in this fight, he is currently ranked number 2 in the world in this division whilst Lopez is ranked number 7, Garcia is a strong favourite for the fight, he is currently best odds of 1/5 to win whilst Lopez is as big as 9/2. Lopez comes into this fight having lost two of his last five bouts although he has won his last two but he did lose within the distance in those two he lost. Garcia won the title in his last fight, he put Salido down twice in the first round and then again in rounds 3 & 4 before the fight being stopped in round 8 after an accidental head-butt broke Garcia’s nose and the fight was stopped and went to the scorecards.

So we have two guys capable of landing big damaging punches, the concern for Lopez are those two recent defeats whilst Garcia has not been in too much trouble lately so for me Garcia should win this fight, obviously I am not going to back him at 1/5 so we will look for alternative bets and the one which I am liking the look of is the Round Group Betting and I am looking at Rounds 5-8 for this fight to finish. Lopez should be capable of withstanding an early onslaught from Garcia but it will eventually take its toll and if Garcia gets in those wide power shots then Lopez will not last the distance so I will be taking Mikey Garcia to win in rounds 5-8 which is available at 9/4.

About Author

I have been in the betting game for getting on 10 years now, I was a late comer in the betting scene, never really showed much interest in the first 20 years of my life but then I came across a betting website and that all changed. I have learnt a vast amount over the last 5 years, I used to believe I could pick the winner in every race before I realised I could not and began selective betting which is the only way forward. I mainly stick with the horses but do occasionally stray off to bet on the footie or speedway. I am now 35 years old, born and bred in Ipswich and still here and forever a Tractorboy, work part time for a Cash & Carry and have a dog named Dave! That’s about it from me.

  1. Garcia got the job done…..1 round too early! He finished off Lopez in the 4th round so the bet was unsuccessful. Garcia did lose his title though as he failed the weights!
