Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle 2014

AP McCoy’s success on At Fishers Cross was his third success in the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle.

Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle 2014

Only established in 2005 the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle is a race over three miles in which novice hurdlers are faced with twelve hurdles if they are to be successful here. AP McCoy won the race last year on At Fishers Cross and that was his third success which means he is the leading jockey whilst Jonjo O’Neill holds the most trainer wins with two but has not won it since 2007.

Zipster – Mosspark

Briar Hill is a very strong favourite for this race and anything that is priced up at 6/4 in a twenty runner race has to be taken seriously but you also have to question the value and for me it’s not there and I have looked elsewhere and for me that comes from Mosspark. He is unbeaten under rules from three starts over hurdles and stepped up to listed company last time out to win well at Huntingdon, up in trip for the first time today and will have to step up his game again to get involved here with another step up in class but he is a runner going in the right direction and worth an each way shout here.

gghofman – Briar Hill (Win) & The Job Is Right (EW)

Kings Palace has nice form with two comfortable wins coming into this, will stay out trouble at front and sure to give good run and looks forecast material with Briar Hill. Mosspark takes the eye but its hard see how he is as good as two at the top of the market. The job is right ran a stinker last time at Clonmel but before that had run an excellent race by being 5 lengths of the talented Faugheen, 66/1 on him is far too big not to have a bite. Briar Hill is talked up as Irelands festival hot thing now. Has won all starts including the bumper here by a good 7 length last year. Bigger field and good pace will suit highly as will step up to 3miles and vibes coming out are good.

SeamusShanley – Briar Hill

Condtions should be ideal for the Willie Mullins runner as he attempts to win all three of the novice hurdling events at this festival. He was a very impressive winner of the Cheltenham Bumper last year beating Regal Encore by 7 lengths. The form has been franked since with Regal Encore running an eyecatching performance in the Imperial Cup. He may not have had to beat much opposition in Ireland in his last few runs but he cannot be blamed for that. We know he will thrive on the good surface and the course form he showed last year must make him the bet of the day.

Jaydubs – Kings Palace

Despite Briar Hill having all the potential to I want to see it before placing a bet on something so short and for that reason I can’t go against Kings Stand here now the ground has dried out. I t has comprehensive wins over 3m and 3m2f on the better ground here at Cheltenham this year so we are going to have no questions about it getting up the hill and seeing out a fast run 3m. It is difficult to gauge some other runners with the ground being so heavy all winter but Pipe obviously has the horses very well and Kings Palace can overcome the 90 day break.

Darylrogerson – Captain Cutter

Those who raced over 2m4f or less last time out are just 1 from 59 in this race where as any that ran between extended 2m4f110y and 3m are 8 from 76, with those stepping down from 3m110y+ winless from 27. It seems to pay to back those who have already proven or at least demonstrated a more stamina based ability and one that stands out very much for me is Captain Cutter. He looks set to improve for this trip and has been very impressive so far over hurdles.
