Australian Open Golf > Scott too good to be true?!

2

Australian Open Golf, The Lakes GC, Sydney, 6-9th December, 2012

The official website for this tournament has a really good guide to the course so I’ve linked it

HERE

The course is short by usual standards at under 6,900 yards but does feature plenty of sand and water so you obviously need to be accurate to prosper here; Chalmers is the defending champ and exactly the sort of player who should do well here

The market is pretty obvious with the big 5 all at shortish odds – Adam Scott is the fav and is way too short at 4.4 on betfair – with his rumoured putter switch in the offing he could be worth laying.. I expect him to stick to his usual putter but still looks a lay at that price although it has to be said there aren’t that many strong challengers and he has been in great form in recent weeks including winning the Australian Masters

Who will beat him though? Chalmers is 15 on betfair and will be thereabouts presumably and Rose, Senden and Ogilvy are the 3 others at the top of the market – Rose at 8.4 seems the best of the bunch given his cracking recent form and his general play this year

Guan Tianlang will attract headlines as the 14 year old Chinese ‘lad’ tees it up with the adults!

There are plenty of decent pros this week battling it out and Leishman, Stanley, B and M Jones, Rumford, Goggin all worth looking at perhaps

Others less well-known worth watching are Jake Higginbottom at 130, Nick Cullen 150 and Matthew Steiger 370 (all betfair)

One of those events where there are no great bets so will watch and possibly trade during the week; I’m still thinking about laying Scott but I think it’s sensible as he may well drift if he doesn’t get out of the blocks quickly – Rose may get a small initial back and I might dabble on 1 or 2 of the new young guns like Higginbottom or Cullen

  1. Scott shot a level par 72 and has drifted nicely to 11 so that lay has gone well; Rose posted a 4 under 68 and has halved in price so more profitable trading again this week!

  2. Laying Scott was wise indeed, the small back of Rose did ok too as he traded sub 2.0 at the weekend… managed to make another (small) profit
