Breeders Cup Picks – Saturday 1st November

Breeders Cup Picks – Saturday 1st November

(19:43) Filly & Mare Turf

Shortlist: Dayatthespa (10/1) | Dank (5/2) | Parranda (28/1)

The favourite Dank returns in an attempt to retain her crown after success in this race last year, she is not coming here in the same kind of form though having come here on the back of two wins last year, she comes here this year having been beaten in her only two starts since winning this race. Dayatthespa recorded her fourth Group success last time out and here second G1 success, stepping up to this trip for the first time today but a six time winner on Firm ground and the way she won over 9f a couple of years ago would suggest that she is capable over this sort of trip. Parranda is a big price for a runner who was runner up in a G1 over C&D last time out, she is a dual course winner in G3 and G2 races and is yet to finish outside the top 3 at this track.

I would really have liked Dank to be coming here in better form, no doubt on her day she is capable of retaining her crown and because of that form I am going to go with DAYATTHESPA in this one.

Exacta: 4-3 Trifecta: 4-3-9

(20:21) Filly & Mare Sprint

Shortlist: Leigh Court (6/1) | Artemis Agrotera (7/2) | Judy The Beauty (4/1)

I pretty much have this race between those at the head of the market who all come into the race in decent form, Artemis Agrotera has won three straight races with the last two both being group success, Judy The Beauty has won 3 of her last 4 starts all in group races whilst Leigh Court comes here on the back of two successes with the latest a comfortable victory in a G2 race.

This looks one of the trickiest races on the card to call, Judy The Beauty has course experience and success which may well play into her favour, I don’t think there will be much in it but for me that course success could prove key so I am going with JUDY THE BEAUTY (NB) just ahead of the favourite.

Exacta: 7-5 Trifecta: 7-5-6

(21:05) Turf Sprint

Shortlist: No Nay Never (6/1) | Sweet Swap (16/1) | Ambitious Brew (16/1)

No Nay Never will have Frankie Dettori in the saddle for the first time and comes here with just one defeat in five starts, he is a three time group winner who will have no problem with the ground nor the trip, the only concern would be his wide draw which he will have to get across from.

A couple at bigger prices are Sweet Swap who made a successful step up to patterned company last time out over C&D and also Ambitious Brew who was runner up to Home Run Kitten on his step up to patterned company last time out also over C&D, both look big prices and may be worth considering each way but for me this is all about NO NAY NEVER (NAP).

Exacta: 14-3 Trifecta: 14-3-5

No Nay Never….Hopefully Yes Way for my NAP of the day!

(22:22) Turf

Shortlist: Hardest Core (10/1) | Big John B (28/1) | Brown Panther (16/1)

Plenty of European interest in this race with the likes of Telescope, Brown Panther, Chicquita and Flintshire but for me HARDEST CORE will be the one which I shall be backing, was successful early in his career is small races and when making a big step up in class to run in the Arlington Million Stakes (G1) he showed that he has the ability by beating Magician and Side Glance, up in trip today but has already won over it and the ground is ideal.

Of the rest Brown Panther should be thereabouts, was back to his best last time out when landing the Irish St Ledger and also Big John B could put in a big run at a big price, the step back up in trip will only play in his favour today but Hardest Core has impressed and can continue to do so here today.

Exacta: 9-4 Trifecta: 9-4-13

(23:01) Dirt Sprint

Shortlist: Indianapolis (12/1) | Work All Week (16/1) | Seeking The Sherif (25/1)

I think we could well see a big priced winner of this race; a lot of these have it prove at this level including the unbeaten Indianapolis who is making a big step up in class today as he attempts to remain unbeaten. Work All Week was a G3 winner last time out and will be looking to follow that up but I am going to take a chance on the 25/1 shot SEEKING THE SHERIF in this one, he has an unbeaten record here at Santa Anita with him having won all three previous starts, not the worst of runs in his only previous group start and back to winning ways last time out, has it to prove at this level but obviously enjoys this track.

Exacta: 1-2 Trifecta: 1-2-13

Can Seeking The Sherif spring a surprise in the Dirt Sprint?

(23:40) Mile

Shortlist: Tourist (20/1) | Obviously (16/1) | Karakontie (14/1)

The top four in the market are all European runners with Toronado heading the pack following two respectable defeats of late and if he is in the mood then he will be hard to oppose but I am going to side with course experience once again and go with Obviously who on his last two starts here over C&D has won G3 and G1 races and I think he is a lot better than what he showed last time out.

Tourist back in trip looks another interesting runner, couldn’t quite go with the winner last time out over 10f but back to a mile which is more to his liking whilst Karakontie has been disappointing on his last two starts but again another runner back out over a mile and based on his two starts over this trip I would not write him off but for me OBVIOUSLY is the one that I am siding with.

Exacta: 2-14 Trifecta: 2-14-13

(00:35) Classic

Shortlist: Shared Belief (5/2)| Tonalist (13/2) | Bayern (10/1)

The favourite Shared Belief is coming here looking to defend his undefeated record, he has been successful in all 7 starts to date which includes three G1 successes and he is rightly favourite here today and for me will be tough to beat, last time out over this trip nothing got near him. Tonalist could prove the main contender following his impressive win last time out and if Bayern turns up in the right mood then he could prove a big threat but does tend to have an off day.

There has not been a 3yo winner of this race since 2008 when John Gosden’s Ravens Pass was successful but we have some very strong 3yo contenders this year and it would not surprise me if they filled the first three places so for me the unbeaten SHARED BELIEF will remain unbeaten here with a win in the Classic.

Exacta: 6-11 Trifecta: 6-11-7

Will The Impressive Shared Belief remain unbeaten?

About Author

I have been in the betting game for getting on 10 years now, I was a late comer in the betting scene, never really showed much interest in the first 20 years of my life but then I came across a betting website and that all changed. I have learnt a vast amount over the last 5 years, I used to believe I could pick the winner in every race before I realised I could not and began selective betting which is the only way forward. I mainly stick with the horses but do occasionally stray off to bet on the footie or speedway. I am now 35 years old, born and bred in Ipswich and still here and forever a Tractorboy, work part time for a Cash & Carry and have a dog named Dave! That’s about it from me.
