Cousin Carl wins the never-ending Bojangles’ Southern 500

In what seemed to be a never-ending race, Carl Edwards found himself in victory lane at Darlington Raceway.

After four hours and many, many minutes, the longest race of the season – time-wise – came to a close just before midnight in the Eastern United States. Cousin Carl beat the other drivers on the final restart with eight laps to go to win the Bojangles’ Southern 500. Brad Keselowski led 196 laps on his way to a bridesmaid finish. Denny Hamlin rounded out the podium in third. Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick rounded out the top five.

This race had a new track record of 18 cautions. I’ll edit in the lead change number in the morning.*

I’ll go into more detail about this race tomorrow evening.

*Correction: There were 24 lead changes among 11 different drivers.*
