Cycling – Vuelta A Espana – Stage 2 Pontevedra – Baiona 177.7 Km – Betting Preview and Tips

Stage 2 Preview

So the team time trial saw strong favourites OPQS pipped by te very strong riding of Astana and Radioshack. All this leaves Astana in Red a jersey gifted by Nibali to Brajkovic who was first over the line. Brajkovic coming off a real mixed season is in a contract year and he needs all the help he can get to get himself a place with Astana next season. Net App were top notch the best of the smaller teams as they kept Leopold Konig in a good position for a top 10 in the Vuelta.

Theo Bos will be missed from the few flat sprints here as he had a low reading in the pre screening health test. De Gendt showed his signs early that he won’t be contending here finishing well down. Igor Anton lost himself nearly 3 minutes as he was dropped by his team. Stage hunting will now be on his mind. Intxausti dropped off for Movistar he obviously hasn’t been fully wound up for this. Betancur also had issues and lost about 2 minutes. And cofidis finished last themselves nearly 2 minutes down as well.

Stage 2 will see us hit a hill top finish one of eleven we get this year in the Vuelta the run ins will be thrilling and been alert each day will be key. It is just under 180km and mostly flat, but the final climb is about 10km long at an average of 6.2% so it should be pretty interesting. The climb is most difficult in the final 2km so expect it to kick off then. Brajkovic will of course be keen but the leaders jersey could easily change hands with even small time gaps with the added time bonus on top. The suggest wind for tomorrow could well lead to a pretty damn fast climb too so expect a quick day.

Profile of final climb:

For today’s stage I feel both Majka and Arroyo are worth small interest here as they both talented. Henao really interests me as Sky are close but maybe Astana will have their eye on him. Dan Martin will want cheer up a poor ttt for Garmin here, this finish could well go the way for him. Chris Horner could well go well on this climb and at 80/1 he is a big price too. How all these do on stage 2 will be sign of how ready they are to limit losses in their first week.

Valverde and Rodriguez are favoured but I have them maybe vulnerable here with the race yet to settle down. Watch out for Astana and how they decide they will race this. Marczynski was talked up as a long shot for a top 10 here and he is huge odds to get involved for tomorrow.
