European Tour Irish Open Golf 2013 – Carton House

1

The action from the European Tour comes from Carton House outside Maynooth Co.Kildare in my beloved Ireland this week. As will be no surprise the events betting is lead by 4 Irish men and Thomas Bjorn who is the form player on tour right now. With two weeks till the British Open there’s a spot their on offer should a surprise winner strike. Carton House is an in-land course, but still retains some of the qualities of a links type course with precision play key,  deep bunkers line the fairways and greens with shoots just off target will  likely have the player end up in trouble due to the sloping greens.

Carton House was used in 2005 and 2006 with winning scores of -9 and -5 showing its testing nature conditions are due to be fair so a winning score near -10 should be expected.

If you have been following me on twitter you will have seen an excellent run of form from following a range of blogs, I had 4 winners in 3 weeks, then last week had 2nd losing by shoot and two t7 for very close week. I tend to make 3-5 bets per tournament on the European and US Tours.

Last Five Winners
2012 – Jamie Donaldson – 18
2011 – Simon Dyson -15
2010 – Ross Fisher -18
2009 – Shane Lowry -17 (playoff)
2008 – Richard Finch -10

My Fancies:

While Rory McIlroy is super talented its hard to fancy him on some of his recent form and the past showings he has put in. He struggles a bit playing with the wind and i’m not sure he is totally suited to the links style golf. McDowell is shortish and he hasn’t played much in Europe this year but wouldn’t put people off him. Harrington had his second worst round as a pro last week and he is having serious issues at times recently.  Shane Lowry local boy is the 4th of the fancied Irish lads and as a past winners and a course resident he does have his plus side.

Thomas Bjorn was looking good but it fell apart in end losing out to Els and his price isn’t now much to tempt me. With the putting of Paul Lawrie picking up he’s of great interest, he has had most success close to home and play link style courses well.  And his GIR is notable and a putting show like last week could have him in contention. Jamie Donaldson has had strong season and could go well on a course where Brits have had good success. Ross Fisher is interesting he is a past winner and has been knocking on the door recently that he might be close to another win on the tour, for a long shot Darren Fichardt has chances and has been mentioned a bit.

Paul Lawrie 40/1 (6 places paddypower)

Jamie Donaldson 40/1 (6 places paddypower)

Ross Fisher  25/1 (6 places paddypower)

Darren Fichardt 125/1 (6 places betvictor)
