Germany v Argentina – World Cup 2014 Final

Germany v Argentina – World Cup 2014 Final

It really has been a fantastic World Cup, drug plenty of talking points both good and bad, we have seen some fantastic goals, some brilliant team performances and some inspirational solo performances but we are now down to the final two sides and they will face off for the biggest prize in international football, The World Cup!

Germany come into the game as the favourites with the bookies following the 7-1 hammering of Brazil and it is not only that game which makes them favourite for this final, they have looked solid and probably the most consistent side at this years finals, they have only conceded four goals in all of their games whilst scoring a staggering seventeen goals, they have Mats Hummels, Philipp Lahm, Thomas Muller and Toni Kroos all nominated for the Golden Ball award and Toni Kroos is the top rated player at this years World Cup with a Castrol Index Rating of 9.79 whilst Thomas Muller is on 5 goals and only 1 behind current leader James Rodriguez.

Argentina have not had an easy passage on their way to the world cup final, after topping their group with three wins, all by a single goal they have since scored just one goals in three matches and that goal came against Belgium, they needed penalties against both Switzerland and the Netherlands so the fact of the matter is they are struggling to score but on the positive side they are not conceding which was looking to be one of their biggest weaknesses going into this. There are no surprises that Lionel Messi leads the scoring charts for Argentina with four goals.

Our Thoughts:

Match Winner – Argentina
Will Both Teams Score – Yes
When will the match be won – 90 Minutes

My heart says Lionel Messi could dominate and leave no doubters as to his claim as they greatest player of all time. My head and the stats say Argentina can’t win this having been taken to penalties in the semi-finals with a day less preparation than Germany.

If it were any other player on the planet, I’d be virtually all in on the Germans by now, but in Messi no team is safe from such a player. He hasn’t been quite as good in the last couple of games and doesn’t look over the injury troubles that have plagued him this season. That said he’s still managed 4 goals and a couple of assists to deliver his team to the World Cup Final.

He’s scored in 8 out of 10 cup finals he’s played in since moving to his favoured false 9 role and he delivers on the big stages. This is the biggest of them all when he know his team needs him to here and I believe he will.

Match Winner – Argentina
Will Both Teams Score – No
When will the match be won – 90 Minutes

Having tipped Argentina to win before the tournament, I have to stick with them – Germany may well be the in-form team and looking likely but the Argentinians will be way tougher to beat than Brazil were

This could well be a frustrating game for the Germans who almost had it too easy against Brazil and although their tactics were spot on in that match, they will be a lot harder to get right in this one

Messi is a superb player (ignoring all the hype and discussion of this and that) and could win this match with one piece of skill or one great free-kick. Germany have a disciplined and talented team but I’m not sure they have the match-winner in tere, the one player that could make a difference.

So I will stick with Argentina to almost cause a surprise here, a 1-0 win over 90 for me

Match Winner – Germany

I put up Argentina to win the cup before we started and I am happy to see them make it to the final however I just cannot see past Germany here, the way they have been playing has been superb, they are a proper team, they are not a bunch of individuals, they are so fluent in their play and have really impressed me. Argentina rely on the likes of Messi too much and yes he is capable of winning a game on his own but I don’t even see the Argentineans scoring tonight. I doubt we will see anything like the scoreline in the semi from Germany but I do see them winning this comfortably so I will be backingGermany -1 at 3.55.

About Author

I have been in the betting game for getting on 10 years now, I was a late comer in the betting scene, never really showed much interest in the first 20 years of my life but then I came across a betting website and that all changed. I have learnt a vast amount over the last 5 years, I used to believe I could pick the winner in every race before I realised I could not and began selective betting which is the only way forward. I mainly stick with the horses but do occasionally stray off to bet on the footie or speedway. I am now 35 years old, born and bred in Ipswich and still here and forever a Tractorboy, work part time for a Cash & Carry and have a dog named Dave! That’s about it from me.
