Giro Stage 9 Cycling Blog
Stage 8 was a good one on the match bets, approved while Inxausti surely would been a choice to get a stage win despite his poor start to the race. Uran looked back to his best and Contador came through strong. Facing the riders on Sunday is a massive 224km test from Benevento to San Giorgio Del Sannio with a day of real classic riding with just 2 climbs categorised failing to do the difficulty of the stage justice. With the first rest day of the race coming up for the riders this should be raced pretty hard by Astana and maybe Sky will look to join in, stuff expect Saxo to give rope to the break again if it suits them. The finish has some slight uphills parts but nothing major the final 500m does drag up so could make for an interesting sprint.
On a normal day I might be pushing towards a break winning but there might be interest from Orica and others while Astana and Sky might have an interest in testing Contador once more. For me playing this with some valid outsiders is the way to go on this day, website small stakes being the call. Clarke took my eye but when I saw odds of 28/1 I quickly decided otherwise.
