Golf: Accenture World Golf Matchplay Championships Feb 19th

US PGA Tour: Accenture World Matchplay Championship

Dove Mountain, Marana, nr Tucson, Arizona, Feb 19th-23rd

So it’s off to Arizona and hopefully no snow this year, for the World Matchplay Championship – not everyone’s cup of tea and not a betting event for me although there are some strange odds with some of the bookies… I prefer to trade as the odds are too high initially on some of the 64-man field and you can get a fairly quick return if you guess well early on

Full details can be found on the new, shiny and updated PGA Tour website here > PGA Tour Website

and the full ‘who plays who’ is here on this printable Bracket

I have gone for some surprise matchplay results all round and have the following:

Jones bracket >
Watney / Snedeker / Olesen / Stricker for the 3rd round > with Snedeker / Olesen progressing

Hogan bracket >
English / Schwartzel / Leishman / Poulter for the 3rd round > with Schwartzel / Poulter progressing

Player bracket >
Piercy / Stallings / Moore / Spieth for the 3rd round > with Stallings / Moore progressing

Snead bracket >
Mahan / Matsuyama / Dubuisson / Bradley for the 3rd round > with Matsuyama / Bradley prgoressing

I then expect Snedeker / Schwartzel / Moore and Matsuyama to contest the semi-finals with possibly a Schwartzel v Matsuyama final – unlikely but this may be a year when the real big guns don’t end up winning much!

Top 4 market on BF has Schwartzel at 9.8, Matsuyama at 15, Moore at 12.5 and Sneds at 15.5 > these are not advised bets this week, just bets I will probably start off with but I will be trading this event as it doesn’t appeal to me as a normal event

I will be trading the first round and looking at the following:

Schwartzel at 38
Snedeker at 60
Matsuyama at 60
Moore at 60
Olesen at 130
Leishman at 150
Piercy at 160
Blixt at 210 (top player and could surprise KB)

If things go well, they all win! and prices drop a fair bit

  1. Hi Gecko, I’m not brave enough to try and pick the winner of this super-tricky event. Have taken 2/1 (Betfred) on any European winner, though. Euros have a good overall record at Dove Mountain which is a course that can favour scrambling and putting. In turn I think that favours Europeans rather than Americans (there are exceptions such as Kuchar and he won it last year). Correct price is probably nearer 6/4 so I took the 2/1 in the hope of either an all-Euro final, or more likely one Euro finalist which might allow me to trade for a profit on the final. Good luck with your selections.

  2. Hi Peter – best of luck with that, I’m not keen on the favs this year although usually a big name does win this – going for some slight surprises to give me some trading profit for now!

  3. Well 5 of the 8 won so their prices have dropped so I can trade nicely – 3 were losers

Although I thought Bradley would do well, I did trade Blixt as 210 was too high, he’s down to 100 to lay now

  4. I hear you! I’m still in with Young Victor in the final as “any European” but can’t trade as his opponent is 4/7 for the final.

  5. Had to go to bed after they’d played 14 and I’d given up on envisaging a chance to trade. I’d won on the Newcastle football earlier and had kind of written this one off.
