Hamilton blunders and Rosberg plunders

A strategic blunder snatched victory in the Grand Prix of Monaco from Hamilton and gave it to Rosberg for the third year in a row.

Lewis Hamilton was driving to a storybook victory on the streets of Monte Carlo when a two car wreck in turn 1 brought out the safety car. For unknown reasons, Hamilton was brought into pit road to change onto the super soft tires. Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel opted not to pit and that gave Rosberg his third straight victory in the principality. Jenson Button gave McLaren Honda its first points of the 2015 season with an eighth place finish.

The crash that brought out the safety car involved Roman Grosjean and Max Verstappen. They were battling for tenth racing down the front stretch. Verstappen had a run on Grosjean going into one when he clipped the back of the Lotus car and slammed the tire barrier. It was a scary wreck to watch, but he walked away from the crash.

What a way to begin Racing’s Greatest Day. The next race takes us to the United States for the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Nico Rosberg, seen here at Australia, took the top step of the podium for the second straight year in Austria.
