Hamilton walks upon England’s mountains green

The always ever present threat of rain in England allowed Lewis Hamilton to take the checkered flag at Silverstone.

It wasn’t the race of domination that’s become the norm of the Mercedes team. The silver arrow duo didn’t get a good start off the lights, but the Williams duo of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas got a dynamite start.

It looked like Williams Martini Racing had the number of Mercedes AMG Petronas, but a perfectly timed and lightning fast pit stop put native son Hamilton in the lead. He hit pit road at the perfect time a second time when rain came to England. I know, what a shock.

The pit stops for Williams provided a double whammy. The first cost them the lead and the second cost both drivers a podium spot. Sebastian Vettel, who’d been a non factor all race, rounded out the podium in third.

It was also a race of attrition with only 13 cars finishing the race. After getting caught in a wreck that took out teammate Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso – riding a four race streak of not finishing a race – scored his first point of the season with a tenth place finish.

With no German Grand Prix this season, Formula 1 is on a three week vacation before heading to the Hungaroring.
