Nelson Mandela Championship Bets and Tips
With the passing of the former South African President, the Nelson Mandela Championship will take place a day early from Wednesday this week. This is the last European Tour event of the year before the Christmas break so probably best to hold back with intentions mixed from the field and the change in course will not have helped. This par 71 is pretty short by tour standards these days. The front 9 looks to be key and the place to pick up shots; I expect the back 9 will be much trickier.
From reading it looks like more rain is forecast and with Sunday out of play for extending the tournament then I would be be very surprised if all 4 rounds got played. I advise caution with both market leaders Coetzee and Grace who on form should go well here but are in a rough patch right now.
Also worth a read is Nelson Mandela’s piece on Gary Player. Mandela may have made mistakes in his time and had an agenda to what he did but there is no doubt he knew how to get people onside and was open minded.
So our picks for the Nelson Mandela Championship:
Darren Fichardt 18/1 bet365 – Home boy, has played this course well before. Had good run to finish the season proper but being little suspect since Tour hit South Africa with some very poor moments including taking a 10, if he can avoid that he is the best choice to win here.
Thomas Aiken 30/1 bet365 – Been good off the tee of late, good to hear hes been back home in the country working on his game.
James Kingston 80/1 various – A good accurate driver of the ball. Recent play has shown him improving and has done well in Durban before.
Espen Kofstad 80/1 various – Have backed him once this season and can see a breakthrough at some point – good chance here if putts start falling. Lost his card now but seems to be doing something to change that.
Michael Hoey 100/1 various(win only) – In good order last start won event of this level with the Russian win this year and has a great strike rate
Tjaart Van Der Walt 66/1 boylesports – 2nd here in 2007. Hit hot form with putter when winning on Sunshine tour last month. Came close in Q school so needs do well here to secure more game time in Europe. (Ensure you back the right Van Der Walt)
So that concludes my Nelson Mandela Championship Bets:
