2:15pm Goodwood – THA’IR
Just touched off on reappearance giving away fitness in a Listed race at Newmarket at a time when the Godolphin stables were under pressure with the Al Zarooni scandal. Wasn’t disgraced in Group juvenile races last season and was sent to the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot where he found both the company and perhaps the extra 2 furlongs too much to handle. Justified warm favouritism at Newmarket two weeks ago when beating Sennockian Star who’s gone on to win next time out (beating a next time out winner himself) so the form looks strong. Saeed Bin Suroor’s two and three year olds won 20 races from 54 runners last month when competing against their own age groups and I think Tha’ir can carry on the operation’s fantastic form.
7:45pm Ffos Las – SADLER’S RISK (NAP)
Back on the flat after struggling to keep pace in Grade 3 and Listed hurdle events at Cheltenham and Aintree in the spring and made his reappearance at Ascot early last month when finishing 6th. Looked much better last time out at Newmarket when attempting to make all going down by less than a length to an improving sort. That’s set a standard that looks a cut above most in this field and he would only have to replicate it to make an impression at the business end of the race. All of Stock Hill Fair’s handicap wins have come from being allowed to dominate from the front but with Mama Quilla the only horse who’s usually ridden held up I expect the pace to be strong and Sadler’s Risk, who has won over 2m and placed over 2m4f, won’t be short of the stamina to last home.
8:15pm Ffos Las – BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (NB)
Won very nicely last time out when returning from a stint over hurdles. Finished runner-up over 1m6f last August before doing a little too much in front at Bath in the following race. The drop back down in trip coupled with a relief in handicap mark looked very favourable last time out striking the front 2f out and coming clear. The runner up finished a couple of lengths behind despite Bohemian Rhapsody being eased down in the closing stages and the pair a few lengths clear of the chasing field. Races under a penalty today and this doesn’t look any harder on the face of it. They should go a good gallop today which will only suit Bohemian Rhapsody further and I think he can make it two from two back on the flat today.
