7.15 Kempton – ELJADDAAF (nap)
The selection, trained by Dean Ivory, is a son of Shamardal who enjoyed a fruitful 2016 campaign, clocking up five wins that year including, three of them here and two of them over course and distance. Beaten on his final two starts of that year, he made a winning start to 2017 in this very contest, waited with off a scorching pace and coasting through the field from the two furlong marker, leading approaching the final furlong and going on to score by 4 lengths from Pretty Bubbles. He wasn’t beaten far from a 12lb higher mark at Chelmsford next time, but things haven’t really gone his way since for one reason or another, a lack of pace doing for him next time before two defeats on turf. His outing in a 7f handicap at Lingfield last December was his first in over six months, caught wide and racing closer to the action than is usually the case, unsurprisingly fading in the straight to finish down the field. However, it served its purpose, setting him up for another crack at this contest and seeing his mark slip back to 85, still 8lbs above his highest winning mark but still likely prove competitive from it back in Class 4 company; 3-4 over this course and distance and race fit, it wouldn’t at all surprise to see this seven-year-old return to winning ways.
