SBB Race Of The Day Selections

Zipster – Sky Lantern
This is a straightforward pick for me, I am not about to abandon Sky Lantern just because of her defeat to Elusive Kate last time out, Elusive Kate has since gone over to France to win the Prix Rothschild (G1) in comfortable fashion to back up the form of the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. Sky Lantern will appreciate the step up in trip, she has comfortably been seeing out a mile this season and the ground is not a concern. Just The Judge was runner-up to her in the 1000 Guineas and looks the main threat but there is nothing to suggest to me that the placings will be reversed and with the form that Hannon and Hughes are in at Goodwood, Sky Lantern will return to winning ways here today.

Gecko – Sky Lantern
Sajjhaa is obviously decent and the trip is ideal but the big wins in Dubai have been good but not stunning; Integral is probably more of a challenge to the favourite here and really will be worth looking at – Sky Lantern however is a cracking filly and Hannon has already stated that she could go to mile and a quarter; form is strong and she can continue her cracking record with a win here possibly just holding off Integral; Hughes on board too.

Jaydubs – Sajjhaa
Sajjhaa has been away in Dubai winning 2 x group 2’s and a 2 x group 1’s the last beating Giofra by 2 lengths, which is more than the 2 lengths Sky lantern beat it lto. With the chance being taken that it will not be inconvenienced by the extra 2f i think Sajjhaa at double figures is much the better bet.

Darylrogerson – Hot Snap
Sky Lantern takes a step up in trip today and sire Red Clubs statistics gave me a little to worry about for her. Red Clubs progeny have won just 4 times from 74 runs between 1m1f and 1m3f and are specifically 1 from 41 at this 1m2f trip. She wouldn’t be the first or the last outstanding miler to falter when stepped up. More so she has significantly less stamina from her sire than her relatives who mostly performed best around a mile or less (Shanty Star a Group 3 winner over 2m but by Hector Protector who’s progeny fare better over longer distances). With enough on the breeding to cast doubt over her truly staying I’m going to have to look elsewhere.

I’m going to opt for Lady Cecil’s Hot Snap who looked genuine top class when coming right away from Sky Lantern despite still showing signs of greenness. She went off favourite for the 1000 Guineas but could only finish 9th never really better than midfield. She’s a half-sister to connections Midday, a six time Group 1 winner including twice as a 3yo over 10 furlongs. Hot Snap is likely to have similar or perhaps stronger stamina influence from her sire Pivotal and it could well be the 1000 Guineas was too quick for her. This trip should suit whilst also helping her settle better and these connections have been patient as they often are in giving her plenty of time.

About Author

I have been in the betting game for getting on 10 years now, I was a late comer in the betting scene, never really showed much interest in the first 20 years of my life but then I came across a betting website and that all changed. I have learnt a vast amount over the last 5 years, I used to believe I could pick the winner in every race before I realised I could not and began selective betting which is the only way forward. I mainly stick with the horses but do occasionally stray off to bet on the footie or speedway. I am now 35 years old, born and bred in Ipswich and still here and forever a Tractorboy, work part time for a Cash & Carry and have a dog named Dave! That’s about it from me.

    • I have not got many right lately but if she runs to her ability then she should win the race but this is racing and there are a vast number of things that could go wrong! Fingers crossed she has an event free race this time and gets home in front!
