SBB Race Of The Day Selections
Zipster – Pique Sous
Willie Mullins runner here today will be making his handicap debut off a mark of 137 which I believe is a mark he should be capable of winning off, a group 2 winner over hurdles earlier in the year at Fairyhouse showed that he had some ability, the minimum trip is ideal for him as will be the ground as long as it does not dry out too much, he is also off a decent looking weight of just 10-10. With 20 opponents it is obviously going to be a tough ask, you have form runners in the likes of Rock Critic, Make Your Mark and Rawnaq and the vast majority are coming into the race on the back of a decent run so it should be a great spectacle and for me Pique Sous can come out on top.
Jaydubs – Rock Critic
Ted Veale is bound to be well supported here today especially with Tony Martin in form but this is such a competitive race that the price on offer is not value for me. Instead I am going to plump for Rock Critic who runs for Weld, who often does so well at this festival. It has won 4 of its 6 runs at Galway and will go well fresh. It beat the useful Seabass lto giving it weight at Fairyhouse and although only 2 runs over the hurdles it has not put a foot wrong and is the better bet for me on the softer surface.
Darylrogerson – Rock Critic
An odd statistic but whilst top weighted horses are 0 from 16 in this race, those carrying between 1lb and 6lbs less than top weight are 4 from 15. It is one that suits my selection, but my selection has been chosen on handicapping reasons. Beat longtime Grand National favourite Seabass giving away 7lbs on hurdling debut when picking up quickly 2f out and then eventually being eased down close to home. 3rd place Make Your Mark gives credit to Rock Critic though, beaten nearly 13 lengths when assessed as 135. Dropped 2lbs for that run but after two runs stepped up in distance he was back over 2 miles where he duly won and was put up to 141 from which he was won again since. Able to beat a now 141 rated hurdler by 13 lengths with more to spare leaves this 146 mark for Rock Critic looking very workable and I think he can win this.
