Ryanair Chase 2014

Cue Card was successful in 2013, will he return to retain his title in 2014?

Ryanair Chase 2014

The Ryanair Chase is fairly new having only been established in 2005, its race which is run over two miles five furlongs where the runners have a total of seventeen fences to contend with. Both Ruby Walsh and AP McCoy have two wins apiece whilst in the trainer charts Paul Nicholls, Jonjo O’Neill and Nicky Henderson all have two wins apiece.

Ryanair Chase 2014 – Trend Selection: Dynaste (7/2)

Anthony Sherratt – Rathlin

You can see Ant’s full reasoning in his daily selection post.

gghofman – Al Ferof, Hidden Cyclone (EW Value)

The Ryanair always sees a good field as their has always been room for good chasers who find 2 miles too fast but 3 miles too much of a test. Boston Bob comes off one of his worst runs and jumping will be called into question at this level.

For me Hidden Cyclone, Dynaste and benefficient are all very closely match so to see hidden cyclone go at double figures compare to 7/2 on the others draws me to him. Travels over fine and wins fair to suggest could take this.

The real eye catcher is Al ferof a former supreme winner at this track. Came back from year off with win ascot. 3 miles was too much for him other runs so drop to this trip best suited. Taking chance he can be back to his best.

Zipster – Dynaste

I backed Dynaste in 2012 in this very race when he finished eighth and well off the winner Big Bucks and I also backed him last year in the Novice Chase when runner up behind Benefficient so I am hoping that it will be third time lucky this year! He was rather disappointing in the King George back in December when fifth and virtually pulled up but drops back in trip today and we should see the better side of him today and he always seems to bring his best to Cheltenham where his form reads 22812, obviously it is a tough task today with the runner who beat him last year Benefficient taking him on again and then the likes of Al Ferof and Menorah but for me I am hoping it’s going to Dynaste’s day of glory.

Jaydubs – Al Ferof

Al Ferof tried to make the step up to 3m without success this season but has run creditable in the King George and the Denman while winning the Paddy Power. All the trends suggest a grade 1 winner, a high rating and previous success at Cheltenham. All 6 winners had also run in the King George that year which would narrow it down to just 3 of the top 4 in the betting, which is also where all previous winners had come from. I still have my doubts that Dynaste can get up the hill well enough, while Beneficient and Menorah would pose the biggest threats.

Darylrogerson – Al Ferof

His win in the Paddy Power over this course and distance was very impressive and barring injury would have probably ran in this last year. Winner of the Amlin Chase on return in November before trying to take on the Gold Cup contenders to prove his credentials for that race. Was ridden to get home in the King George but was well beaten by Harry Topper last time out and plans for the Gold Cup were shelved. Has some outstanding course and festival form as a 2010 Champion Bumper runner up to Cue Card, 2011’s Supreme Novices Hurdle winner but he probably found it too short in the 2012 Queen Mother chase and a bad blunder didn’t help either. Conditions look ideal for him today and he should run a big race.

Gecko – Dynaste

Really hard to pick between the top 4 but with Menorah probably not quite up to the task in the really big races, the final 3 all look so close – preference is for Dynaste who impressed so much last year and has shown a top level of ability in the Betfair Chase – if the pulled muscles were reason for the poor show at Kempton then I’m prepared to go with Dynaste again, on the basis a fully fit and in form outing today will be enough to nick this off the gallant Benefficient- Radjhani Express may be a decent shout for a surprise frame place at over 20/1 as has potential indeed.

Ryanair Chase 2014 – SBB Recommends: Al Ferof (1pt Win)
