Tour of Qatar 2015 Preview

Tour of Qatar 2015 Preview

The Tour of Qatar 2015 will likely be decided by the possible crosswinds but also by the nabbing of some bonus seconds on the days it all breaks up. Stage 3 is the time trial and its just under 11km long. There are no hills to be faced in this one just winds and splits.

Terpstra won last year by taking the opening stage from a late break before riding a good time trial to hold on. Sprinters could lose up to 20 seconds in that time trial but not much more than that.

Two that come to mind for this are Boom and Wiggins both have good time trials and great racing brains to avoid missing any splits. Wiggins has a focus this year and he is much more time trial built this year with Roubaix in mind and the hour record. He also took hold of the world time trial title. At the same prices I could not be backing Boom over Wiggins. Pinnacle have stuck the neck out a little with the 9.28 on Wiggins so I will gladly take it.

Cancellara is not the rider he was but he is still a strong racer and can hold his own in a time trial so at 19/1 he looks a bit big price wise. Brandle is purely a long shot shout at big odds.

Wiggins could time trial to victory in the Tour of Qatar

  1. Stage 1:
A sprint and it might just kill me but I am going french for this one. A small punt winds might not be enough to stop the mighty Kittel.

    .25pts Bouhanni 10/1 ladbrokes

2.5pts Boassen Hagen to beat Steegmans 4/6 bet365
1pt Bennett to beat Modolo 2.17 pinnacle
1pt Kristoff to beat Boonen 13/8 paddys
1pt Sagan to beat Boonen 1.91 pinnacle

  2. Stage 3:
I left stage 2 as I was short on time and a little ill. Kristoff who no doubt was suited by the wind and testing sand and he took his chance. He held of Guardini who has really impressed so far for Astana. Greg kept Sagan out of the top 3.
After two stages just 24 riders lie within 25 seconds, the rest seem too far back at 43 seconds. The time trial is stage 3 and Wiggins will e wearing his rainbow jersey one of very few outings likely as he winds down his racing career.
    The contenders for overall:
Bodnar is a name that stood out at Tinkoff now in his 2nd season he has a superior time trial to team mate Sagan who will help him if needs be in time. He was 8th in last years test in Dubai but looks strong this season. Hepburn edged out Boom last year and Wiggins might do same despite his lack of overall interest he will be resplendent in rainbow stripes.
Bodnar can be backed 8/1 overall and Stannard at 50/1 is a great shot so small investments worth it on both who can do these short time trials. I was very tempted to take the 6/4 on Wiggins but left it in end.
